IntroductionThe mountains of the cordillera Vilcabamba rise to form a ragged chain between the regions two great rivers, the Urubamba and the Apurimac. Along the Cordillera's northern side, massive snow peaks collide with tropical rain forests creates a magnificent contrast between lush vegetation and lofty desolation area.
Salkantay Mountain is located in the north side of Cusco, the cordillera's tallest peak, rises to 6271 masl. The name Salkantay means Savage Mountain, which may refer to the clouds that rise up from the jungle lowlands and engulf the peak. Mollepata, an attractive village built on a mountainside overlooking the deep citrus producing valley of the Apurimac, is the starting point for the trek
Wonderful route with mixes of typical landscapes Andean, the remotes and ancient Inca routs, which offer marvelous views and experiences of typical world Andean.
Pick up from the hotel and transfer by bus to the town of Mollepata (2,800m.), located 3 hours away from the city of Cusco. The trek will start here, the mules will carry all of our baggage, we will have some emergency horses too, in case that needed them. As far as Markokasa where we will camp.
We will ascend slowly along steep slopes that will take us to the Marcocasa pass (3,650m.). Our trip continues through the beautiful scenery until we reach Humantay viewpoint (5,917m.). We will head toward a great pampa called Soray Pampa (3,900m.) enjoying excellent views of the landscape and the Vilcabamba Mountains. We continue until the beginning of the Salkantay gorge and set up camp near it.
Day 3 : Salkantay pampa / Incachiriasca step / Sisay pampaToday we will begin our ramble with exceptional Salkantay snow-covered views (6271) while we climb to Incachiriasca step (4880) this beautiful mountain will amaze us. After we descend to the Sisaypampa step where we will camp downwards majestic Salkantay snow-covered.
After healthy breakfast, we will begin ramble, to the Pampacahua valley where we will find rest of the Inca canal, then we descend to the archeological combined of Paucarcancha where after to have visited them we will camp.
We will undertake on early in the morning the ramble to Guayllabamba(3000 m.) in this place we will climb to Warmihuañusca step, then we can see the great construction of the Inca trail while we descent to Pacaymayo valley where we will be camping.
Day 6 : Pacaymayo / Phuyupatamarca / WiñaywaynaIt is a best day than other ones of our ramble, we will be seeing spectacular landscapes and will be visiting archeological centers like to Sayacmarca, Concahamarcay, Phuyupatamarca. Finally we will descend to striking Wiñaywayna where we will camp.
Very early in the morning we will start our ramble to arrive to Intipunku and we can have the first magnificent view of the terrific striking Machupicchu (2475 m), then we will descend to our excursion guided to the beautiful Inca city, in the afternoon we will return to Cusco by train, to arrive and to move at hotel.
