Introduction
Nearly 2,000 miles up-river from the mouth of the Amazon lies the jungle-locked city of Iquitos. Accessible only by boat or by plane, Iquitos still displays evidence of the wealth created during the 'rubber boom' of the 1860's. Houses both near the main plaza and the river are still decorated with the beautiful glazed tiles imported from Portugal along with many other luxury goods from Europe.
Itinerary
Day 1: Iquitos/City Tour/Momon River/Lodge
-Our Guide collects you from the airport or your hotel in our private bus.
-You will be accompanied by a permanent English speaking Guide during the whole trip
-City tour of the principal attractions of IquitosThe Main Square, The Catholic Cathedral, The cast Iron House built by Eiffel,The Boulevar
-We board our speedboat for the trip up the Nanay and Momon rivers.
-Visit the Boras Indigenous Tribe
-Visit to the Serpentarium to see snakes and other exotic animals.
-Upon arrival at the Lodge we are warmly greeted with a welcome drink made of local tropical fruits.Canoe rides on the rive.
Day 2: Lodge
(Optional) we rise at the crack of dawn, around 5:30 am, for an hour long canoe ride upriver to enjoy the great variety of bird life.
-Hike through the jungle to explore the rainforest.
-Visit the Jibaro Indigenous Tribe.
-Visit to the small villages of Gen Gen and Centro Fuerte to learn their customs and habits.
-Visit the “Chullachaki” Mini- Zoo
-Visit the JARDIN BOTANICO (Botanical Garden)
-Our Guide fascinates us with tales of the jungle
Day three : Lodge /Yagua Indians/Pilpintuwasi/Iquitos
-Visit the Yagua Indigenous Tribe
-We head back to the city of Iquitos.Tour al cruce de los rios Itaya y Amazonas
-Observation of the meeting of the waters Nanay and Momon River
-Tour Amazonas and Itaya rivers.
-City Tours: Quistococha Zoo and Lake.
-Airport.
What is included:
- Free transport from the hotel or airport in our private bus to the port of Bellavista on the Nanay River. Boat ride in our own boat to the lodge.
- Transport by boat to the Yahua and Bora indian villages and the Serpentarium and back to the port of Bellavista. Transport by our own private bus back to the hotel or to the airport.
- Free use of all the installations at the lodge which include the swimming pool, the look-out tower, the musical instruments, the games room, the hammocks, the canoes, etc.
- Three meals a day during the whole period that the tourist is inside the lodge: breakfast, lunch and dinner. If the tourist arrives mid-morning then lunch will be served, if he/she arrives mid-afternoon then dinner will be served. The same applies for the final day.
- Bottled water from a water fountain next to the bar and swimming pool, fresh fruit juices during breakfast and lunch.
- A permanent English speaking guide will be assigned to the tourists during their visit to the lodge and will stay with them until they leave. Guides are available in other languages upon request.
- All tours mentioned in the program are included in the price.
What is not included:
- Plane tickets, airport taxes.
- Food and drinks in the city of Iquitos the first and last day.
- All consumption at the bar, which includes bottled soft drinks and alcoholic beverages.
- Use of our satellite Internet Service.
- Adult channels (available in three of the 22 Bungalows)
- Purchases made from the Indian tribes for their handicrafts
- Tips to the lodge staff on the final day (for good service if you are happy) and tips to the guide for his service ( again, if you are happy).
- Any other personal costs not mentioned in this program.
What You need to bring/carry:
- Insect repellant
- Good walking shoes that cover the heals (to avoid twisting your ankle)
- Large sun hat
- Sunglasses
- Sun cream
- Camera with plenty of film and batteries
- Flashlight/torch to use at nighttime (plus spare batteries)
- Lightweight raincoat with rainproof hat
- Umbrella in case of rain
- A good book to read, plenty of magazines (to read while you relax)
- Pair of Binoculars
- Water flask (fresh drinking water for jungle treks)
- Swimming costume (for swimming in our large pool or in the river)
- ALL FRIENDLY PETS ALLOWED,
- (For couples) Bring protection (there are no pharmacies nearby!!)
*Please note that most of our animals roam around the lodge freely.
**The native Indian tribes in the area are very poor and love to receive gifts of used clothing, old toys or anything at all that the tourist does not need and wishes to donate. Also, any items for children such as paper, pencils and pens are very gratefully received.
